What To Expect When You Visit
On your first visit a comprehensive case history will be taken. This will include the history of your current complaint, past medical history and questions about your lifestyle. This will enable a full picture to be built up of the possible causes and underlying factors of your complaint. Next a comprehensive osteopathic examination will be carried out; this will include analysis of your posture, ranges of movement, palpation of your muscles, ligaments and connective tissue. The examination is also likely to involve a number of neurological and orthopaedic tests as well as other examination such blood pressure measurement. You may be required to undress down to your underwear for the examination so you may want to wear suitable clothing (such as shorts) in which you feel comfortable.
Once the examination is completed a diagnosis will be reached and this will be carefully explained to you. If it is felt Osteopathy can help your problem a treatment plan will be outlined and, with your consent, treatment will be started. If it is decided that Osteopathy cannot help the options open to you will be discussed and you will be advised where to seek further help.
In a small number of cases it may be felt further tests and investigations may be required, if this is the case you may be referred to your GP with a covering letter. We are also able to refer you for some private health tests, such as MRI, if you prefer. |
